Love this island! If you can't afford to fly all the way to Hawaii this is a good second choice destination. However you must get permission to visit there first. And unfortunately, they do not give permission to civilians. Only if you have an emergency can you stop by there. Otherwise they will shoot you out of the sky and you'll have to pay your own funeral expenses. Since this island is not available for tourism and if you're still too broke to go to Hawaii then I recommend Catalina Island just outside of LA about 26 miles across the sea. JR

Took the ole C-40 here once for a layover. Didn't get to try the hotel or food, but the scenery was limited to what we could see from the tarmac. Other than that, it seemed like a cool hangout spot.

As far as Naval Stations go this place is awesome. If you take advantage of whats there and not worry about all the BS your tour will be amazing! As an SH there's a lot that happens behind the seen that I can Bi=ch about but Like I said I focused on the positive.. Good friends, Good people, amazing trails to run, and the clear blue Ocean... Could be better but I'm use to worse!
Thanks for everything. Perfect place to retire after 20yrs!!!

I absolutely hate this place upon arrival, but absolutely love it upon departing back to San Diego. My love for this place upon departing so overwhelms my hatred upon arrival, that this landing field deserves five stars! No kidding, these folks do a great job getting us where we need to go.
